Energy management software

Energy management software, designed for the person, not the equipment.

We designed and built the app behind Entech, an energy control system for multi-unit buildings. Owners and property managers run heating, cooling and leak alerts for a whole building, or a whole portfolio, from one place.

The real problem

The hardware was never the problem.

A boiler reports a temperature. A leak sensor reports wet or dry. Multiply that by every unit in every building and you have thousands of true facts and no idea what to do on a Tuesday morning. The software has to answer one question: what needs me today.

Entech on a phone: one building's detail screen with zone tabs, a heat calling status, indoor and outdoor temperatures, and a list of boilers with their state.

From portfolio to boiler

One product, three levels of detail.

The exception is the design. A building where nothing is wrong should be quiet, and the one that needs attention should be obvious.

  1. The portfolio

For an owner with many buildings

An owner with one building wants detail. An owner with thirty wants a shortlist. The portfolio view is a filter down into the building view, not a separate product, so both are served by the same thing.

Entech buildings list: a card per building with a heat status, indoor and outdoor temperatures, and a state such as Calling or Switch Manual.
  2. One building, per unit

    For the property manager

Heating, cooling and per-unit temperature on one screen, so a manager can see the flat that is running cold without knocking on the door, and change it without going to the basement.

Entech single unit heat screen: a calling status above a temperature history graph, and outdoor, indoor and return temperatures with set points.
  3. Equipment control

    For whoever runs the plant

Boiler cycles, run times and schedules, changed from a phone. Changing a set point is two taps, because the alternative is a trip to the basement.

Entech boiler cycle settings: run time, return temperature, a countdown ring for on-time remaining, and the current schedule window.

We also designed and built Simplaq, a platform that gives shopping mall operators tenant communication, wayfinding, digital signage and analytics in one dashboard.

Cost and timeline

Mapped first, then one fixed price.

Software tied to real equipment starts with what the devices report and who has to act on it. We agree the scope, then give you one number that doesn't drift.

Fair questions

Before you get in touch.

Do you build the hardware or the software?

The software. For Entech the sensors and smart thermostats already existed; we designed and built the app that owners and property managers actually use to run them.

Can you work with our existing sensors and controllers?

That is the usual starting point. Entech’s hardware was already in place, and the work was making all of it legible from one place. A short Sprint maps what your devices report and what people need to decide from it.

Who is energy management software for?

The people who have to act on it: owners, property managers and whoever runs the plant. The design question is not what every sensor is saying, it is what needs someone today.

Do you build web dashboards as well as mobile apps?

Yes. We design and build mobile apps for iOS and Android, web dashboards and the backend that connects them to your devices and data.

How long does it take to build energy management software?

A Build runs 10 to 16 weeks from the first brief to launch, depending on scope. Projects tied to existing hardware usually start with a one to two week Sprint to map it first.

How much does custom energy management software cost?

It depends on the scope, so we price each project as a fixed scope with one number rather than an hourly rate. Our pricing page shows where each kind of engagement starts.

Who owns the code?

You do. Every build hands over a codebase you own outright, with docs and a pairing week, so you never depend on us to make a change.
